Idea
  City is the continously growing organism such as infrastructure, economy, society, arts, tradition and urbanism and etc. ‘City Face’ is always changing following what its society want. City and society seek how to make cultural identity meaningful. Therefore, the local genius will be very urgent to know and comprehend how it.
  In the context of dance, local genius on the dancers’ body may change & revolutionarily disappeared or keep staying and continually growing. Possibilities within them may happen. It could be transformed to be artefact or renewing in the nowadays interpretation or disappeared? It is like the old historical building naming Gedung DHC’45, venue of this festival, that is saved from demolishing. It is built in 1876 and located at Jl. Mayor Soenaryo No.4, Solo, Central Java, Indonesia. Local genius of dancers’body as if it were destiny of the old building that is on and on to decide its choosing in the growth of the modern society currently. In the Solo Dance Festival 2007, a festival hold by Mataya arts& heritage where the solo dancers express their biography of their bodies to know how they are influenced by intercultural interaction in the present globalization era, will performe five dancers. They are Krishna Lin (Taiwan), Jefriandi Usman (Jakarta, Indonesia), Sen Hea Ha (South Korea), Fitri Setyaningsih (Yogyakarta, Indonesia), S.Pamardi (Solo, Indonesia), and Ni Kadek Yulia Moure (Solo, Indonesia).
  On April 29, 2007, at 08.am in the morning, there will be 1,000 (a thousand) interdiscipline, inter-profession inter-religious and inter-ethnics female dancers children, teenagers, and adults to perform Gambyong Dance, a traditional Javanese dance along the street of Jl. Mayor Soenaryo, in front of the old building of Gedung DHC’45 to celebrate World Dance Day 2007. This moment will bring dance towards universal values and togetherness to perform and appreciate traditional dance. Gambyong dance will be the main thing to gain collective memory of society in order to look back the local genius and historical values.

About Gambyong Dance
Historically Gambyong was name of female dancer. She lived in the era of Sinuhun Paku Buwono IV (1788-1820), a King of Kasunanan Kraton (Palace) in Surakarta/Solo. Based on book of Babad Sala by RM. Sajid (1984), told that she was a very beautiful-looking dancer and good at dancing and many people liked her much. Of her fame, having created Gambyong dance, a Javanese traditional folk one. It has developed into various form till now. Essentially it expresses harmony, refinement, and flexibility. And artistically it has a harmonizing within rhythm, movement and kendang sounding (kendhang: a Javanese traditional beating instrument).

Objectives
1.Knowing local genius within dancers’ body.
2.Celebrating Dance World Day 2007 to bring dance towards universal values and togetherness in the present multicultural era.
